Knotless Knitting Worshop

June 2, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

As part of the Beaufort Historical Association’s Living History series, Mary Ellen Clement will conduct a Knotless Knitting Workshop in the Beaufort Historical Association Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street on Thursday, June 2 from 10:00 am -1:00 pm. Knotless knitting creations have become an increasingly popular crafting art form used in a variety of ways.

Knotless knitting is an ancient textile technique of looping to create a form without using knots.  This technique can be an artistic craft or a technique used to make a useful object. Once the technique is learned, the creative and useful possibilities are endless. The technique can be used to cover beach stones or glass, to make pendant jewelry, Christmas ornaments, cover bottles or pottery, create bags, baskets, garment coverings, nets and more.
The workshop will be led by the talented Mary Ellen Clement, a skilled craftsperson specializing in many forms of weaving and textiles, including the intricate art of basket making. Her basket work can be seen in the Mattie King Davis Art gallery on the Beaufort Historic Site.
The workshop is limited to 10 participants and has a materials fee of $15.For information on this and other Living History Programs, stop by the Beaufort Historic Site’s Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street, call 252-728-5225 or 800-575-7483, or visit www.beauforthistoricsite.org.
