The Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market Farm to Table

Ahh…the sweet taste of Spring

and fresh vegetables deliciously prepared

 

The Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market again will host its Spring Farm to Table fundraising dinner on Thursday, May 26.  There is a change in venue: This year the event will be held on Craven Street, between Broad and Ann streets in Beaufort, starting at 6:00 pm.

Carteret County College Culinary and Hospitality Art students, led by James Clarkson, are planning as well as preparing menu comprised of foods grown and caught locally.

Much of the meal will be cooked on the premises and includes local fresh fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised chicken.  These ingredients will be sourced from local Carteret County farmers and food-producers.

o   Farmers: JW Merrell Century Farm (Beaufort), Garner Farm (Newport), Samadhi Farm (Newport), Willis Farm (Newport), Honey Bee Hynes eggs (Smyrna), Underground Farm (Smyrna)

 

o   Bakers: Slice Bakery (Morehead City); Celebration Cottage (Atlantic Beach) and Wildflour Bakery (Gloucester)

 

 

Adult beverages will be available.

 

Lockwood Phillips will serve as Master of Ceremonies and also host his talk radio program – called “Viewpoint” – on WTKF 107.1 FM — on site at the event.  Station WTKF 107.1 FM is located in Morehead City and broadcasting throughout Eastern North Carolina. Phillips is co-owner and General Manager of The Carteret County News-Times along with his brother, Walter Phillips, under the banner of Carteret Publishing Company.

“With the farm to table dinner, our intent is to showcase our farmers, fishermen and food producers and their contributions to the county,” explained Catherine Elkins, a member of the Board of Directors and the event organizer.  “And our goal is to bring our OBFM friends, supporters and volunteers together for an evening of food, fun and friendship.

 

“We are also extremely pleased to have Carteret Community College Culinary Arts students join our team as guest chefs. The menu they have planned captures OBFM’s “shop local, buy fresh” theme,” she explained.

 

“In addition to the delicious buffet of local foods, we are offering an open air setting in downtown Beaufort — a short distance from the waterfront — and engaging music by Magnolia Still – a Raleigh-Durham based bluegrass and Americana band,” Elkins said.

A portion of the proceeds will support Carteret Community College Culinary and Hospitality Arts program as well as help defray some of OBFM’s operational costs.

 

In case of rain, the dinner will move to the North Carolina Maritime Museum, Front Street, Beaufort.

 

Magnolia Still is a Raleigh-Durham based 5-piece string band of bluegrass and Americana music with original sounds and fresh interpretations. The sound is made up of guitar, banjo, fiddle,

upright bass, washboard, and rich 3 part harmonies, old time and contemporary, spirit and soul with roots deep in bluegrass and classical traditions.
