Middle Lane is home to Beaufort’s annual Mardi Gras celebration, the highlight of which is arguably the shortest parade in North Carolina. It’s a true display of Beaufort’s quirkiness. The parade of “krewes” in costume tossing jewelry and charms is not to be missed. The Sweet Potato Queens (a group of women, aged 40-70) who dress in elaborate costumes and perform choreographed routines, are always a festive group in the parade. Enjoy an afternoon street carnival filled with Cajun food and music! Bring the kids along for the face-painting and mask-making experience under the tents. After going to Beaufort’s Mardi Gras Celebration, you’ll understand why Beaufort was named to the list of “America’s Quirkiest Towns” by Travel + Leisure magazine. Free admission.
New 2023 Parade Route: the parade will start on Craven Street and head South – turn right on Front Street – turn right on Turner Street – then, right on Middle Lane – ending at Craven Street.
Music will be provided by Boom Unit Brass Band, a 10-piece brass band from the Triangle.
Beaufort’s Mardi Gras Celebration Mardi Gras is presented by Beaufort Business Association, in conjunction with Front Street and Middle Lane businesses.

On behalf of each member of the Pecan Tree Inn, we would like to thank you for helping us make 2022 one of our best years. As the sun dropped over the Inlet each night, the local boat captains guided guests on sunset cruises, as well as day trips, exploring and shelling on Rachel Carson Reserve, Cape Lookout, and Shackelford Banks. Shopping the local business and historic sites and dining at our local restaurants are just part of the memories made while staying at the Inn.
