December 12th
Please be aware that all events at the Beaufort Historic Site are open to change in light of COVID19 and will follow all of the guidelines corresponding to it. For more information please call 252-728-5225. Thank you. PLEASE NOTE: In light of COVID10 restrictions, there will be no inside tours of homes.
As with many of our events this year, our beloved Christmas Candlelight Tour will see change. However, while we are unable to tour our friends’ beautiful private historic homes, we have planned something that we are confident will still truly bring the Christmas spirit to our sweet seaport village.
On Saturday, December 12 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. the grounds and buildings of the Beaufort Historic Site will come to life and transport you back in time to an 18th century Christmas. For $20, you will be able to tour the Victorian Josiah Bell House c.1825, primitive Leffers Cottage c.1778, and the federal John C. Manson House c.1825. You will also have the chance to tour the Old Burying Ground and learn about Beaufort’s historic past.
As an added bonus, the English Double-Decker bus will be decked out in Christmas lights and will travel the streets of Beaufort for all to delight in holiday décor at historic private homes, inns, and more. So if you live in Beaufort, be sure to decorate early this year!
The bus will stop at a variety of inns, churches, and businesses. Some of the establishments will even be offering extra holiday cheer with fire pits, s’mores kits, music, and magically lit gardens that are perfect for a photo-op.
Don’t forget to stop in at the Old Beaufort Shop to grab holiday gifts. The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery will also be open and featuring the work of Jimmy Craig Womble, Lisa Tuchek, and Mandy Johnson.
We will be following all Covid-19 protocol. Masks and social distancing will be required, and we will have hand sanitizer handy, so all we need is you!
For more information about the tour or to purchase your ticket, visit beauforthistoricsite.org, call 252-728-5225, or stop in at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street. We cannot wait to celebrate the holiday season with you.

The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is a reenactment of an event that happened in Beaufort, North Carolina, in 1747, when the town was caught up in a battle to defend itself from Spanish privateers. Blackbeard is also part of our local history and the wreck of QAR is here to prove it. Along with many other tales and legends of the Notorious Pirate and his alleged shenanigans in our area. This annual event was created in 1960 to highlight this unique and historical event of victory. The story unfolds on the waterfront at Taylor’s Creek, throughout town and around pirate encampments. Professional pirate re-enactors, villagers and merchants roam throughout town creating a historical and piratical presence for pirate enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy. Join us in celebrating our towns history and unique culture throughout the year by visiting Beaufort during one of our many local events and don’t miss the N.C. Maritime Museum and the Queen Anne’s Revenge exhibit which opened last spring and many other interesting things to see and do in NC’s Coolest Small Town.

In the mid-1980s at a boatyard in Annapolis, MD., Captain Bob Turner wore socks all during the long, cold winter months while working on OPB’s (Other People’s Boats). By winter’s end, his socks were stand-up stiff with sawdust, caulk and bottom paint. ON the first day of spring, Capt. Bob placed his leavings laden socks in a paint tray, doused them with lighter fluid, set them on fire, and then drank beer to celebrate. And so the spring tradition of sock burning began and it has grown to coastal communities across the country.
Come join us and celebrate the age-old maritime tradition of burning your socks on the spring solstice. Enjoy oysters, food, brew, and music. Tickets are $25 and available online at www.beaufortnc.com or at Backstreet Pub in Beaufort.
Bring a pair of old socks to burn. Bring a pair of new socks to donate.

“JOIN THE 300-YEAR LEGEND!”
It has been three hundred years since the notorious pirate Blackbeard lost his ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge in Beaufort waters. Since that time, many legends have emerged, some based on facts, some born of imagination. Either way, Blackbeard has become an inseparable part of our story!
August 10-11 of this year, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion will acknowledge this part of our history by adopting the theme,
“The Year of Blackbeard”, coinciding with other events in the community.
Every August, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion attracts thousands of people to our community to be entertained by pirate-themed activities and historical re-enactments while enjoying spending time in the nation’s “Coolest Small Town.”
The Beaufort Pirate Invasion, Inc., is a community-based organization comprised of dedicated volunteers, historical re-enactors and history enthusiasts. Our mission is to celebrate the rich history of our town by bringing to life our interpretation of the Spanish attack of 1747 and the history of piracy along our coast.
This year, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion, Inc., will donate a portion of the event proceeds to the Bonehenge Whale Center, a project of the Carolina City Maritime Foundation. Learn more at www.bonehenge.org. @beaufortpirateinvasion
