The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is a reenactment of an event that happened in Beaufort, North Carolina, in 1747, when the town was caught up in a battle to defend itself from Spanish privateers. Blackbeard is also part of our local history and the wreck of QAR is here to prove it. Along with many other tales and legends of the Notorious Pirate and his alleged shenanigans in our area. This annual event was created in 1960 to highlight this unique and historical event of victory. The story unfolds on the waterfront at Taylor’s Creek, throughout town and around pirate encampments. Professional pirate re-enactors, villagers and merchants roam throughout town creating a historical and piratical presence for pirate enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy. In the mid-1980s at a boatyard in Annapolis, MD., Captain Bob Turner wore socks all during the long, cold winter months while working on OPB’s (Other People’s Boats). By winter’s end, his socks were stand-up stiff with sawdust, caulk and bottom paint. ON the first day of spring, Capt. Bob placed his leavings laden socks in a paint tray, doused them with lighter fluid, set them on fire, and then drank beer to celebrate. And so the spring tradition of sock burning began and it has grown to coastal communities across the country.
Come join us and celebrate the age-old maritime tradition of burning your socks on the spring solstice. Enjoy oysters, food, brew, and music. Tickets are $25 and available online at www.beaufortnc.com or at Backstreet Pub in Beaufort.
Bring a pair of old socks to burn. Bring a pair of new socks to donate.

As you know, Beaufort and most of Eastern NC is just starting to heal from the devastation brought on by Hurricane Florence. Beaufort Wine and Food is moving forward with its third annual craft beer festival – BEAUFORT’S BREWIN’ in an effort to raise much-needed funds for Hurricane Relief in our beloved community.
Please consider supporting this worthy cause. Many in our community did not fare as well as some, and there is still much work that needs to be done. Purchase tickets, sponsor, or volunteer today! Contact me at email@example.com or 252-515-0708 for details on how to help. It has been amazing to see communities come together and help each other during this time of need.
Just a note to let everyone know we thank you for all your prayers, phone call, text message, and well wishes. The Inn survived Hurricane Florence with minimal damages and we are preparing to re-open our doors on Monday, September 24th.
We are excited that the Beaufort Wine and Food will hold the second annual Beer Festival this coming weekend and proceeds will assist with the Hurrican Relief, so many were affected here in Beaufort and Carteret County. #Beaufortstrong #CararetCountyStrong
Please feel free to donate or shop online at one of the businesses that are donating 10if you can to our little community as we rebuild.
“JOIN THE 300-YEAR LEGEND!”
It has been three hundred years since the notorious pirate Blackbeard lost his ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge in Beaufort waters. Since that time, many legends have emerged, some based on facts, some born of imagination. Either way, Blackbeard has become an inseparable part of our story!
August 10-11 of this year, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion will acknowledge this part of our history by adopting the theme,
“The Year of Blackbeard”, coinciding with other events in the community.
Every August, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion attracts thousands of people to our community to be entertained by pirate-themed activities and historical re-enactments while enjoying spending time in the nation’s “Coolest Small Town.”
The Beaufort Pirate Invasion, Inc., is a community-based organization comprised of dedicated volunteers, historical re-enactors and history enthusiasts. Our mission is to celebrate the rich history of our town by bringing to life our interpretation of the Spanish attack of 1747 and the history of piracy along our coast.
This year, The Beaufort Pirate Invasion, Inc., will donate a portion of the event proceeds to the Bonehenge Whale Center, a project of the Carolina City Maritime Foundation. Learn more at www.bonehenge.org. @beaufortpirateinvasion
